2016/17 Season Overview
The 2016/17 season marked a turning point in the clubs competitive history.
In previous seasons, the club failed to attend many competitions, and often struggled at the ones it did. However, at the end of the 2015/16 season, the then Treasurer and Captain-Elect Stephen Williams committed the club to attending all fixtures in the SWWU (South Wales and West Universities) League; including all BUCS competitions. Furthermore, he set the public goal of a top 5 finish in the senior SWWU league and a top 3 finish in the novice SWWU league; privately stating that he felt the club was capable of top 3 in the former, and winning the latter. Additionally, Stephen also entered the club into the E-League for the first time.
As the season progressed, the two teams got stronger and more confident, with almost every result being better than the previous. Over the course of the year, every archer who represented the club did themselves, and the club, proud. Standout performances from Becky Martin put the senior team in extremely good standing in their SWWU league, and also earned the club multiple BUCS points. Ellen McCormack put in strong, reliable scores in every leg of the SWWU league to provide a large boost the the senior team. Will Armstrong rose to the challenge of both BUCS competitions to bring home a large swath of BUCS points and two silver medals. Jess Randall and Claudia Tippet both excelled in the novice female barebow category; each finishing on the podium at both the BUCS Indoor Southern Qualifying and BUCS Outdoors. Jamie Diep and Hugo Hammond put in consistently strong performances over the course of the year, to ensure the novice SWWU team fulfilled their potential.
Come the end of the season, the tables looked night and day from previous years. Whereas the club had languished near, or at, the bottom of the two SWWU tables every year since the club formed, this year the club was extremely competitive and came second in the senior league, and were crowned Champions of the novice. In BUCS, the club went from rarely scoring any points, to becoming a top 10 club. In it's maiden year within the E-League, the club quickly established it's presence, gaining 3 promotions out of a maximum possible 4, and performing extremely well in the individual leagues (including picking up two 1st places, a 2nd place and two 4ths).
The 2016/17 season marked a turning point in the clubs competitive history; 2016/17 marked the year the club announced it's arrival on the UK student archery scene in spectacular fashion.

E-League Overview
2016/17 marked our first year in the E-League, and as such we entered the competition in the conference league for both novice and senior. Whilst there's too many results to publish here, below are the end of season highlights, with the full results able to be seen on their official website.
Senior Teams:
Novice Teams:
Individual Highlights:
Senior Teams:
- Senior Team A - Had a perfect season; winning the conference with the maximum 50 points. Promoted to Division 4.
- Senior Team B - Steadily improved over the season (6th in round 1, 4th in round 2, 2nd in rounds 3 & 4) to finish 2nd on 40 points; behind only our Team A. Promoted to Division 4.
- Senior Team C - Despite not entering in round 1, finished a respectable 7th.
Novice Teams:
- Novice Team A - Didn't enter round 1, but then steadily improved from 3rd in round 2, to 2nd in round 3, and 1st in both rounds 4 & 5. Finished top of the league. Promoted to Division 3.
- Novice Team B - Didn't enter round 1, and then went on to produce reliable results to finish the season in 4th place.
- Novice Team C - Only entered rounds 2 & 3; both times with only 1 archer in the team. Finished the season 13th.
Individual Highlights:
- Becky Martin - Picked up two 2nds (rounds 1 & 3) and three 1sts (rounds 2, 4 & 5) to finish the season on a near perfect 98 point; winning the senior female recurve league.
- Ellen McCormack - Put in reliable scores to pick up points in all but round 1; finishing 17th in the senior female recurve league.
- Will Armstrong - Put in competitive scores in each round; finishing 4th (and just shy of 3rd) in the senior male barebow league.
- Jake Bellamy - Missed the opening 2 rounds due to joining the club in the New Year, but quickly started putting in strong scores, including a 4th place in round 5, to finish 12th in the senior male barebow league.
- Elliot Tyrrell - Didn't enter the first round but then quickly set to making amends with two 2nd places (rounds 2 & 5), a 3rd place (round 4) and a 4th place (round 3). Finished 4th in the senior male longbow league; close to both 3rd and 2nd.
- Jess Randall - Didn't enter a score in round 1, but then quickly set to dominating the novice female barebow league; with a single 2nd (round 2) being the worst result (1st in rounds 3, 4 & 5). Cruised to 1st place in the novice female barebow league & also secured 13th in the senior female barebow league due to having high enough scores to pick up points in the senior league each round she entered (including a 5th place in round 5).
- Claudia Tippett - Didn't enter a score in round 1, but picked up a 2nd place (round 5), 3rd place (round 3) and 2 4th places (rounds 2 & 4) to finish a comfortable 2nd in the novice female barebow league. She also secured 15th in the senior female barebow league due to having scores high enough to pick up points in the senior league each round she entered (including a 7th place in round 5).
