What are special sessions?

Special sessions are just a broad-stroke term for any session that isn't a general session, beginners' course session or a fun shoot. These sessions can be a wide range of things and may see a departure from our standard session 'rules' (for example we may have limited spaces, session fees may be different, etc.)

When are special sessions held?

There's no set time when we have special sessions. Instead, they'll be designated (typically replacing a general session) on an ad hoc basis. We'll give our members as much notice as possible for these sessions.

Team Selection Shoots

These sessions are intended for use by those who wish to be considered for an upcoming competition. All archers will be required to follow competition conditions as closely as possible, and will be required to take part in scoring. At the end of the session all scores must be submitted (you can designate if you really don't wish to be considered) so that they may be used in the process of selecting the team for said competition.

In some rare cases, we may limit spaces to these sessions to ensure enough quality shooting can be carried out in order to properly assess those who wish to be considered for the team.

There are no special session fee changes for these sessions.

Team Shoots

These sessions are only open to the team going to an upcoming competition. In some cases there may be additional & limited spaces for others to attend; if this is the case they will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis starting with the committee then non-committee student coaches and finally the rest of the club.

These sessions are used to ensure the team get as much, quality practice as possible before the competition to ensure they're as ready as can be. Competition conditions will be imposed as much as possible to try and simulate the conditions that will be encountered at said competition.

There are no special session fee changes for these sessions.

Charity Shoots

These sessions are designed to raise money for worthy causes. Typically they will consist of a fun shoot or a small competition. Often other things are put on to help raise extra money (home baked cakes, etc.) or make the session a little bit more special (music, etc.).

There are no special restrictions on attendance to these sessions, and guest archers & alumni members are often welcomed.

For these sessions special session fees are put in place, as the money goes to charity.
